Thinking of the future when facing the juvenile justice system

“We learn from our mistakes” – this is a common theme in the lives of most Louisiana residents, but it is especially true for children and teenagers. There is no denying that young people push their limits and see what is and is not acceptable. It is just human nature. Unfortunately, pushing boundaries and making mistakes sometimes includes behavior that violates our state’s criminal laws. When this happens, children and teenagers might find themselves facing not only consequences from their parents, but also the juvenile justice system.

Fortunately, in recent years, those involved in the juvenile justice system have recognized the value of focusing on putting juvenile offenders back on the path toward success, instead of focusing on punishment. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that a juvenile offender will just get a “slap on the wrist” and sent home. The reality is that many juvenile cases will involve the potential for serious consequences.

When juveniles face these serious circumstances, they need a personalized defense – one that recognizes their unique situation in life as well as analyzing the unique facts involved in the case. Nothing less than the future is on the line for juveniles facing criminal charges.
