What are the odds that you’ll get divorced?

There is an urban legend that suggests half of all marriages in Louisiana will eventually come to an end. However, the truth is that no one knows what the true divorce rate in the United States is. This is because there are different methods that researchers have used to create an estimate of this figure.

The divorce rate varies between age groups

As a general rule, the divorce rate is higher among older people than it is among younger people. This is partially because older people are more likely to have already been divorced in the past. Statistically speaking, a second, third or fourth marriage has a greater chance of ending in divorce than a first marriage.

It’s also important to note that those who were born closer to the start of the 21st century wait longer to get married than those born during the middle of the 20th century. Therefore, they tend to have a better idea of what they want from a partner prior to getting married, which means that they are less likely to leave their spouses. If you are planning on leaving your spouse, it may be a good idea to discuss the process of doing so with a family law attorney.

People are living longer

As the human lifespan increases, it may not make sense to stay with the same person until you die. It isn’t uncommon for people to want different things as they get older, and in some cases, it may be necessary to choose a new partner to pursue those things with.

If you are thinking about getting a divorce, it may be in your best interest to talk to an attorney. Doing so may help you obtain a favorable outcome in your case in a timely manner.
